Tour Summary:

Un ‘Gout de Normandy’ or a ‘Taste of Normandy” is exactly how it sounds – literally a sample of what the region can offer over a 4-day long weekend. The “taste’ doesn’t restrict itself to the gourmet part of your trip and cyclists can sample just some or all parts of the routes set out.

All cyclists are not created equal and some of us like to go harder and further than the rest of the group (we have something else for you guys).  For us, it’s all about the experience and we don’t want you to arrive at your destination too tired and saddle-sore to enjoy a good dinner.  We want you to enjoy the holistic experience and cycle as much or as little as you want so it really is up to you how far you want to go in a day.  It's a perfect trip for a couple looking to expand the boundaries of their cycling experiences.

The Trip:

We will meet you from the ferry (or local airport) on a Friday morning and take your luggage. We will then provide you each with a navigation device (like a Garmin), which will sit on your handlebars and guide you through the proposed route each day. We have selected some very decent restaurants for lunch and should you decide against doing the return leg we will come and retrieve you.

The Cycling :

The cycling will suit intermediates and there are plenty of challenges to be had if you are looking for them.  If you do not want to complete the distance at any point you can call us and we will come and pick you up. There will be a support vehicle with spare parts and a replacement bike should you need it. If you feel that you need a guide we will provide you with someone to accompany you along all or parts of the trip – but this choice is completely up to you.

So you can do as many miles as you want to, with or without a guide, and if you don’t want to ride that day there’s a ton of other stuff you might be interested in

- a tour of the D Day beaches, visiting some of the beautifully preserved local architecture or just staying at home and reading a book.

The Accommodation:

You will be staying at a beautifully restored Norman farmhouse in rural Dangy, La Manche where breakfast and dinner will be provided every day culminating in a gourmet dinner on the final evening of your stay. The house has 3 double rooms and will comfortably accommodate 6 people. During the summer months, we will aim to dine outdoors but the weather in this part of the world can be changeable.

The Itinerary:

Day 1: Firstly we will pick-up your luggage and there will be a short briefing at the place of disembarkation. The group can then depart towards their accommodation, circa 60 miles away (if you don't fancy the whole route we'll come and pick you up part-way), with suggested stops in Arromanches for breakfast and perhaps some site-seeing in Bayeux 'en-route'. Lunch can be taken in St. Lo and your accommodation will be approximately an hour out of town.  On arriving you can put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine or two and think about your next day's adventure with the only other commitment getting to the dinner table at about 7.00.

Day 2: The route will take you to the west coast of the peninsula via a very scenic route and through some areas of incredible natural beauty. You should be able to make Agon Coutainville in good time for lunch overlooking a perfect beach. The round trip will be about 50 miles which will enable you to build up a good appetite for dinner back in Dangy.

Just outside Gavray
Close to Mont St. Michel
Ready for the off

Day 3: The ride will take you into the fishing port of Port - en - Bessin for lunch on Sunday. This is on the opposite side of the peninsula and land you on the D Day beaches. If you choose to complete the whole ride will be about 55 miles but at any point you can call and the support vehicle will take you back to your digs. We will be having a gourmet evening back in Dangy in the evening to sample the delights of the region and you will have hopefully have built up something of an appetite.

Day 4: On the final day of the tour the group will travel back to where they came in from after a calorific breakfast of local produce. Once again - if you don't want to make the trip which could be up to 60 miles we will take you some or all of the way before bidding you a fond farewell.
